Take Notes
By Robyn Greenspan
January 31, 2002

Find some new uses for your pencil and paper because this little utility might push them into obscurity. eNotes is a quick and easy method for jotting down important information when Web surfing, and it's a tool that can benefit both you and your site visitors.

This free download spares long printouts or endless folders of bookmarks when all you need is a snippet of information or a Web image. The browser plug-in creates a "Knowledge Cart" — the storage area for your notes. When you encounter something on a Web page that you'd like to save, right click the mouse to "Take an eNote" or use the button on the toolbar. The Knowledge Cart organizes specific text and images, instead of URLs and pages, and the selections are compiled in a chronologically organized document, complete with time stamps and original links. The captured information can then be edited or deleted in Microsoft Word.

Enhance your Web site by offering eNotes capability to your customers, increasing your stickiness and adding value. Just add the piece of HTML code to your Web pages and your visitors will be able to save any of your content, allowing them to quickly refer to your site and return. Click on the graphic to try it.

E-business owners who spend many hours online, gathering information, generating ideas and searching for methods to improve the site will find this little application to be very useful. It's almost like having a personal research assistant.
