Street Level Advertising Hits Broadway
By Devin Comiskey

January 10, 2006

A new marketing partnership in New York is proving that targeted marketing is making great strides. Situation Marketing LLC, an online marketing strategy group servicing the theatrical industry, and Hopstop.com, a widely used mass transit directions portal in New York City, have announced an advertising partnership today where Broadway will utilize a new street level advertising program recently released from HopStop.com.

Hopstop’s Street Level (SL) new advertising program reportedly allows advertisers the ability to deliver highly targeted advertisements based on a user’s street level location. Hopstop claims that, to date, no other Web site offers such a level of granular local advertising in the New York City area.

As part of the advertising agreement, the new program’s technology will allow Situation Marketing the ability to deliver advertising for Broadway shows for those specifically traveling to the Times Square area.

A current list of shows that will be participating in the launch of the program includes Chicago, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Rent, and Avenue Q.

“Delivering targeted localized advertising has been our organizational mission for many years and this new technology platform is simply our next step in our progression of that mission,” says Chinedu Echeruo, CEO of Hopstop, in a written statement. “Broadway is one the primary attractions for New York City tourists and we are excited about partnering with Situation Marketing to use our new advertising platform for one of the strongest tourist markets in the world.”

Hopstop.com provides tourists and residents with door-to-door walking and route directions via public transportation systems. Hopstop says it “does for users of the public transportation systems what Mapquest.com does for vehicle owners.”

“Hopstop’s new advertising technology will allow us to effectively target a tourist market in a more precise way than ever before,” said Damian Bazadona, President of Situation Marketing. “The fact that we can now target users who we know are traveling specifically to Times Square will enable us to better target our core tourist market.”

Situation Marketing LLC is a New York based online marketing strategy company servicing the entertainment industry. The company says it has overseen the online marketing strategy for over 60 theatrical and film productions across the globe, including a presence in both the Broadway and Las Vegas markets.
