Yahoo and PayPal Offer Streamlined Checkout By Michelle Megna
April 17, 2007
Yahoo and eBay today announced a partnership in which Yahoo Sponsored Search results will feature a blue shopping cart icon linking to merchants that accept PayPal Express Checkout as a method of payment.
"Yahoo's new search marketing platform delivers consumers more relevant search results, and now, with the shopping cart icon, a clear and simple path to making purchases," Rich Riley, Sr. vice president, Online Channel & Small Business Services, Yahoo! Inc. said in a written statement.
The program enables a streamlined purchase process for PayPal customers, and according to Yahoo, helps extend the company's new search marketing platform launched Feb. 5, referred to as Project Panama. The new search system was created to monetize Yahoo search with sponsored links and to compete with Google's AdWords for search engine advertising dollars. And, so far, Panama is performing well, according to a favorable comScore study reported on by internetnews.com's Nicholas Carlson, in this story.
Participating merchants' search listings on Yahoo will be enhanced with the shopping cart icon, pointing consumers to a bright orange button on the merchants' checkout page, which links the consumer to the path to complete purchases using PayPal Express. Yahoo and PayPal are also launching this program with a series of special offers for e-tailers. For more information visit the Yahoo Search Marketing page here.
