Want Group Discounts? Facebook's Got 'Em

Facebook plans to add a group discount service aimed at local business to bolster its online selling efforts.

Jumping aboard the online group-sharing trend, Facebook is building its own type of coupon service that will allow its members to buy and share discount services. Similar to online group-sharing services such as the enormously successful Groupon, Facbook's new service will be a way for local companies to promote deals and services on Facebook.

Our sister site, Internetnews.com, has more details on Facebook's latest adventure in online selling.

Facebook is prepping a localized, group-sharing discount service as an extension of its Deals program that currently allows businesses to offer special prices to users.

The online discount program is slated to be rolled out in San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, Atlanta and Austin and will involve Facebook's staff working with local firms to promote deals and then to encourage Facebook members to share them with friends.
