A Worldly Presence

Your e-business may be appropriate for the international market and globalization could be in your future. If your potential customers are all over the world, there are a number of features that will have to be in place to prepare your site for global-readiness.

  • Research the regional protocol and etiquette and investigate the cultural climate before proceeding. Make sure your business is one that will be recognized and well-received in other countries.
  • Have your site translated by a native speaker of that particular language. Often, there are idiomatic expressions in one language that don''t translate very well into another language. Have some translation tools, such as Alta Vista''s Translate Anything, on hand to help you read customer email inquiries.
  • Display prices in different types of currency and have a currency converter on your site (try The Universal Currency ConverterTM ). Credit cards may not be widely utilized in some countries so make sure to accept bank transfers as one of your forms of payment.
  • Fulfillment will probably be one of the key factors in international ecommerce success. Thoroughly investigate the concerns associated with shipping/customs/duties and make sure the expense won''t be cost-prohibitive. Factor a percentage of returned goods into the equation too.

Greet your international site visitors with welcome messages in their language and flags of their country. With the proper guidance and planning, your site can become a global success.
