Video Finally Comes to eBay By Laura Rush December 3, 2003 Just when you thought 360-degree product views were the hottest ways to display merchandise, Switzerland-based Logitech today announced the launch of a new video feature, Logitech VideoSnap, which enables eBay sellers in the U.S. to add video clips to their eBay item listing pages. Sellers can use the new technology to demonstrate how products work, better illustrate product details, or come up with new and creative ways to market their items. Using VideoSnap, sellers can post up recorded video up to 60 seconds in length directly to their eBay listings by logging onto the VideoSnap Web site. Multiple videos can be added to one listing. According to LogiTech, sellers need to have an active auction on eBay before using VideoSnap. Sellers can create video clips using any current USB webcam, or use a standard camcorder (VHS, 8mm, VHS-C, etc.) and tools such as Digital Video Creator or a video capture card together to capture and digitize clips of taped video. Once video clips are saved as .avi files, they can then be uploaded to the auction at http://videosnap.logitech.com. VideoSnap also provides a video-editing tool so sellers can adjust clips to fit within the 60-second timeframe. The video clip will remain available on active eBay listings as long as the auction is active. Auction viewers must have Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4 in order to view the video clips. Logitech's application is enabled by the eBay application programming interface, which enables third-party developers to create innovative solutions to enhance auction listings.
