The Value of Good Penmanship
By Robyn Greenspan
May 23, 2000

In this era of typefaces, sizes and fonts, we often forget one of the most personal expressions available to everyone - your handwriting. What could be better than a hand-written note to say "Thank you" to a customer? It certainly would give you the edge over competitors'' who merely include a computer-generated invoice with their orders.

Granted, an easy-to-use site, a good product, fair pricing and great service are the key ingredients to sales, but sometimes an unexpected "extra" will guarantee repeat business.

The best part of today''s tip is that it doesn''t require new code on your site, nor does it need any technical implementation. Just order some postcards to match your printed materials, write a one-sentence expression of thanks and sign it. You can easily do a stack of them while you''re sitting in front of the TV one night, and include one with each filled order.

Sure, you can print them in a font that looks like handwriting, but what''s the point? Your customers can always tell that it''s not authentic and you want to do something that proves you''re different from the rest of the electronic world.
