Review: Avail Intelligence eMarketing Suite
By Wayne Kawamoto

September 4, 2008

Knowledge is power and Avail Intelligence promises technology that collects, analyzes and applies marketing and sales information to improve a site visitor's shopping experience and increase sales.

The technology relies on advanced mathematical techniques from Avail Labs, the firm's research arm, and works with your site in the form of the Avail Intelligence eMarketing Suite. The modules of the suite collect and analyze customers' actions and determine the information and products that should be the most relevant at each phase of the selling cycle.

Behind the scenes, the system mines large sets of data and records behavior, as well as transactions and products, and then provides recommendations. According to the company, the system can calculate some 5,000 predictive recommendations per second.

Avail Intelligence promises measurable improvements to conversion rates and average order values, as well as total sales increases of up to 30 percent. The company seems confident in its claim as its pricing structure charges mainly for measurable contributions to your sales (with a monthly minimum).

"G8" is the latest version of the company's eMarketing Suite that offers faster performance and more scalability to handle the needs of retail sites and gives you stronger control over searches than in prior releases.

Getting There

The suite is designed to help you better communicate with customers and intelligently direct products toward them. It accomplishes this in the following ways: 1) determining the best offer for a particular customer; 2) helping customers find what they're looking for by personalizing the navigation menus; 3) increasing the relevance of your site and products in searches and 4) providing ways for customers to interact and to exchange tips about products and services.

The Avail eMarketing Suite consists of several modules: the Navigation Predictor, Social Search Optimizer, Collaborative Searcher, Landing Page Optimizer, Customer Interaction Broker and Merchandising Module.

The Navigation Predictor generates product recommendations that are based on a visitor's behavior. Offerings are based on the products that a customer is currently viewing or has viewed in the past, as well as products that were previously purchased or are already in the shopping cart.

Results from the Navigation Predictor come in the form of familiar recommendations and lists that can include: "people who bought this item also bought..." and "based on the way you have navigated our site, these are recommendations from our community of users." Also, once a product is in the cart, shoppers can view "shopping cart recommendations."

The company claims that Navigation Predictor offers immediate and measurable results that will increase a customer's number of clicks per visit and raise direct sales by five to 10 percent per customer.

If you would like some control over the presented products, the Merchandising Module lets you apply filters. By applying these filters, you can specify what products will be recommended, for example, products in specific categories, only popular products and more.
