QuickCommerce Payment Solutions
By Kevin Reichard
November 17, 1999

QuickCommerce from E-Commerce Exchange is a payment solution with a wide range of services, including merchant accounts, real-time credit-card authorizations, and check processing. Designed for any level of e-commerce vendor, QuickCommerce is particularly well-suited for the smaller, entry-level vendors that may not have a lot of experience with e-commerce technology and want a combination of affordability and hand holding.

Unlike many credit-card-authorization firms that require an e-merchant to already possess a merchant account, E-commerce Exchange offers this service as part of its larger credit-card solution. E-Commerce Exchange also offers services for the major credit cards: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.

Fees
The fees associated with QuickCommerce are about average in comparison to other authorization services. Unlike most of the authorization services on the market, E-Commerce Exchange offers merchant-account services (instead of requiring you to obtain a merchant account on your own via a local bank or a merchant-account specialist). The cost: 30 cents per transaction and a discount rate of 2.49%, with a monthly minimum charge of $15 on transactions and a $10 monthly statement fee. (The going rate for merchant-account monthly fees is $25.) According to QuickCommerce, most merchants using QuickCommerce license the services for $49.95 per month. Finally, for processing checks, E-Commerce Exchange charges a discount rate of 2% and 30 cents per transaction.

When processing electronic checks, merchants can manually enter check information or offer that capability to online users. This is a departure from the norm, as most payment vendors that offer check processing require that merchants enter bank and routing information themselves. When a merchant processes a check, the assumption is that the funds will be deposited between three and five business days. There''s no notification if a check transaction was successful - only the standard ACH check rejection notice. Similar to most credit-card-processing firms, E-Commerce Exchange settles credit-card batches at the end of the day, with the transaction data sent that same day to your bank.

Set Up
You can integrate QuickCommerce onto an existing Web site by providing a link between a Web page and the QuickCommerce secure server. (This is a simple task: E-Commerce Exchange supplies the enabling HTML code with QuickCommerce.) Once the link is added, customers will see a secure order form as part of their transaction. Here they can directly enter their credit-card information.

Merchants can customize the QuickCommerce transaction form by e-mailing a logo and background graphics to the QuickCommerce staff; there''s no way to upload these graphics directly on your own to instantaneously change the look and feel of the form. E-Commerce Exchange offers its own shopping cart for merchants, however QuickCommerce can be used with any shopping-cart software should one already be in place.
